Our Story

The RoadPro story starts in 1965 when founder Marty Rubin purchased a small auto parts store in Chicago, IL. Selling replacement fuses and wiper blades to locals ignited Marty’s passion for serving the needs of drivers and life on the road.

Over the next decade, Marty steadily grew his business into a thriving auto parts wholesale operation. But in 1978, a conversation with a truck driver customer gave Marty the idea that would come to define the company.

The trucker told Marty about the challenges of life on the road – the loneliness, discomfort, and lack of home amenities. Marty saw an opportunity to make a difference in truckers’ lives by bringing the comforts of home to their cabs.

In 1979, Marty Rubin rebranded his wholesale business as RoadPro, introducing the company’s first CB radios and 12-volt portable appliances designed for truckers. And so our mission to enhance the road travel experience was born.

Growth Through Innovation

In the 1980s and 90s, recreational vehicles and cross-country road trips boomed in popularity. To expand beyond the trucker market, we pioneered RV and automotive travel comfort solutions.

Key innovations included:

• Our first RV dehumidifiers and vent insulators in 1989
• The launch of our popular Fold N Go butane stoves in 1995
• Introducing the first plug-in food and beverage cooler for cars in 1998

The 2000s brought advances in technology that allowed us to design an even wider range of powered comfort accessories. By partnering with top manufacturers globally, we ensured our travel products provided the ultimate in safety, performance, and durability.

Major milestones included:

• Expanding our heating solutions with our first diesel air heaters in 2002
• Releasing higher powered 1000+ watt power inverters to run AC appliances on the road starting in 2005
